Why do so many apparently similar student data collections exist?
The HEDIIP inventory of HE data collections aims to help data collectors gain a better understanding of what other collections are being undertaken and to help HE providers understand which data collections they are responding to.
Although the HEDIIP inventory provides some information about the different data collections that exist we need to understand why so many different organisations are running data collections in order to meet their information requirements.
Based on a sample drawn from the inventory, this report explores student data collections in more detail. What are the drivers for collecting this data? What data and processes are involved? What are the opportunities and barriers to making this a more rationalised and standardised landscape?
This study was undertaken between April and July 2014.
